Immigration Q & A

What is an immigration physical?

If you’re applying for a green card to become a permanent resident of the United States, you need to pass a physical exam that proves you’re not carrying any diseases that could potentially be a threat to the safety of the public and the health of the country. This is the immigration physical exam.

Dr. Bireddy and the team of professionals at Medi Clinics Primary Care LLC do everything to make sure your immigration exam is a quick, easy, and stress-free process. They have an incredibly high success rate with no rejections. They also make an effort to provide patients with an appointment on the day or the day after you call their offices. They even offer walk-in appointments but recommend that you schedule a visit to minimize your wait time.

How should I prepare for my immigration physical exam?

You need to bring the following items with you to Medi Clinics Primary Care LLC when you come in for your immigration physical:

Identification

You need a government-issued photo ID to begin your exam, so be sure to bring a driver’s license or valid passport with you. If the exam is for a child younger than 14 years who doesn’t have a passport, they need an alternate form of official identification that clearly states their legal name, parent’s legal name, and their place and date of birth. Affidavits or birth certificates fulfill these requirements.

Immunization or vaccination record

You need to be current on all of your vaccinations and immunizations, and you need to bring proof of those. The required vaccines for US immigration include:

  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Polio
  • Tetanus and diphtheria
  • Pertussis
  • Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Rotavirus
  • Meningococcal disease
  • Varicella
  • Pneumococcal disease
  • Seasonal influenza

Form I-693 USCIS

The goal of the immigration physical exam is to fill out and submit Form I-693. You can print this out before your appointment if you want to save time, but Medi Clinics Primary Care LLC has copies in their office, so it isn’t necessary to bring a copy with you. If you want to familiarize yourself with the form, you can find it here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-693

What happens during my appointment?

Dr. Bireddy conducts a physical exam that focuses on making sure you’re free of infection. If you’re 15 years or older, he tests for syphilis by doing blood work and asks for a urine sample to be able to test for gonorrhea. Patients who are two years old or older have a TB Gold administered.

Your paperwork is typically ready within two to three business days after your exam, depending on the tests that were administered and their results. The team at Medi Clinics Primary Care LLC gives you a copy of your paperwork and seals the originals in a stamped envelope and delivers it to USCIS.

Medi Clinics Primary Care LLC is diligent about staying on top of any changes with USCIS guidelines. When you get your immigration physical with their team of dedicated providers, you can rest assured that your results will be processed quickly, accurately, and without error.
